OpenBVE Throwback

 OpenBVE Throwback

R42 Pre GOH AA train at 59th Street-Columbus Circle. The AA was a NYC subway service that ran between 168th Street to Hudson Terminal (now Chambers Street or World Trade Center) during off hours from 1967 to 1985, and as the K train until 1988.

Overview

OpenBVE Throwback is a video series of OpenBVE Vids where trains from the past roam the tracks of where they used to run before retirement.

Mainly this occurs on the New York City Subway, and sometimes elsewhere too, like on the TTC and other subways and railroads too.

Photos

An R110A 7 Train at Queensboro Plaza with an R32 on the left. The video itself is the 1st of the series. Although the R110A never ran on the 7, this is still considered a throwback as the R110A was an actual NYC subway train that ran from 1993 to 1998.

An R40 Slant on the orange Q train as it passes Avenue U. The orange Q ran between 1988 to 2001 during the Manhattan Brige reconstruction project via 6th Avenue, consisting of mainly the R40 series.

An R32 F shuttle train approaching Roosevelt Island.

A TTC Mark I (post refurbishment) approaching Midland station. The Scarborough Line was in service since 1985, and ended in 2023.

A 4 car R30 Redbird brown M train arriving at Myrtle Avenue-Broadway.

Combined Wacky run

On some runs, it may also be a wacky scenario too if an older train has new features such as NTT announcements. On a New York City Subway route for example, an old Redbird train running on the 5 is considered a throwback run, but would also become a wacky run too if the scenario involves R142 announcments. The video would be tilted "OpenBVE Throwback & Wacky - R33ML (example of exact Redbird model) - 5 Train (Feat. R142 or NTT Announcements). And this can also apply to a subway route that was planned in the past but never implemented.

These videos are included in both playlists, and there is no separate one.

An R110B K train at Livonia Avenue. In 1991, the gray colored K was planned as a skip stop service on the Canarsie line along with the L train. However the plan was eventually abandoned. Therefore this is a wacky run, and also the gray K rollsign is only included on the R110B.

An R44 Pre GOH GG train approaching Myrtle–Willoughby Avenues station. Although the run is a throwback as the GG train rollsign was used from 1933 to 1985, it is also wacky as R160 announcements are in use. And it is unknown if the G train in the past actually used R44s.

Trivia

  • The R32 F train run was actually the 1st video of the series, before the channel reboot. Afterwards the R110A 7 train video was re-uploaded first.
  • Any NYC subway route that includes the R110A or R110B train is considered throwback whether NTT or SMEE announcements are featured, except for those with unused rollsigns which would also make the run wacky. Besides the aforementioned unused gray K train rollsign on the R110B, there's also the unused orange colored A train rollsign.
  • The R32s and R38s also have unused rollsigns, which are P, T, U, X, Y, and the JFK Express, and also I, O, and all numbers from 1 to 0 only on the front and rear flipdot indicators. Runs with those trains are considered wacky only (except for the T if the run is on 2nd Avenue or on West End).
