OpenBVE Wacky

 OpenBVE Wacky

OpenBVE Wacky, or also known as OpenBVE Fictional or OpenBVE Troll (by others) is a video series of OpenBVE Vids. Its a video series featuring trains operating on subway or rail lines outside their home countries. This is the highest video series worked on.

Overview

Trains from all over the world join together to run on various different lines. This also involves the New York City Subway, TTC and many more. Other scenarios may include trains running on another route that is in the same country but not on the same line or city, such as:

  1. LIRR train on a NYC Subway route.
  2. Singapore MRT on a Taipei Metro route.
  3. TTC subway train in Budapest.
  4. And many more...
The mix includes railroad and subway trains plus light rail vehicles. The run may follow a daily scenario of a route while others may also follow a changed and rerouted route. Noted examples:

Full run:

TTC TR at 42nd Street-Port Authority, on its way to Lefferts Blvd along the A train.

Tokyo Metro 02 Series at Lorimer Street, en route to Bay Parkway on the old M train.

Rerouted run:

R143 at Clinton-Washington Avenues, on the B train via the C train. Note that R143s run exclusively on the J, L and Z trains only.

TTC Mark I at Dunwoody along the MARTA Red Line.

Trains may not share the same track gauge in real life by country; OpenBVE is a unity game where all trains have the same track gauge (except for those in Japan, JR main lines and the rest of the Tokyo Metro system other than the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi & Ginza Lines, Keisei Railway, and Toei Asakusa Line) plus few others.

CPTM 1400 Series departing 103rd Street on the B train via the C train. In real life all CPTM trains operate on a wider track gauge of 1,600 mm, while the NYC Subway operate on a standard track gauge of 1,435 mm. And this particular train runs on overhead wiring while the NYC Subway is powered by third rail.

MBTA 6 Series at Hon-Chiba station on the JR Uchibō Line. While the 6 series operated on a track gauge of 1,435 mm (prior to retirement in 2012), the tracks on the line itself is slightly narrower on a 1,067 mm track gauge. Both utilize overhead wiring.

Other wacky scenarios

Wacky scenarios doesn't have to always involve trains running on another route outside their country, but also a train of the past that has new features. For example, an old Redbird train running on the 5 is considered a throwback run, but would also become a wacky run too if the scenario involves R142 announcments. The video would be tilted "OpenBVE Throwback & Wacky - R33ML (example of exact Redbird model) - 5 Train (Feat. R142 or NTT Announcements). Also a daily normal run of the R68 train on the N train with R160 announcments would also consider the scenario wacky besides normal. That video would be then be titled like this: "OpenBVE Normal & Wacky - R68 N Train (Feat. NTT or R160 announcements)".

A good example is an Amtrak AEM-7 train with 6 car Horizon coaches on the NEC (Northeast Corridor). The throwback part is the AEM-7 train as it no longer exists on Amtrak after retirement in 2016, and the wacky part is the Horizon coach with a cab car variant, which does not exist in real life.

Trivia

  • Most wacky videos are referred to as "Cursed" only if the train itself is, such as the Floating 2 car R142A.
  • Taipei Metro trains not only clip through station platforms on many other routes, but also on their own routes too. Therefore none of the videos that involve any are referred to as "Cursed".
  • The NJT F40PH-2 & Comet Is run on the F express train is the only other cursed video that is not referred to as "Cursed" in the video title, even if the locomotive is excess height.
  • The term "Troll" was considered, but has already been taken by the YouTuber Fan Railer.
  • Except for subway trains that run on the Marunouchi and Ginza Lines of Tokyo Metro, the Keisei stock (including the Toei Asakusa Line), or Shinkansen as those have the same track gauge of 1,435 mm, many Japan trains run on narrow gauge, and this also corrosponds in OpenBVE. Some of those trains can be see on other routes where the wheels are in between the tracks and not on them, making them float.
  • Besides gauge difference, many of the trains per wacky runs don't share the same source of power, such as an EMU train running via a track powered by third rail (EMUs run on overhead wiring).

Overall

This is a highly worked on series due to how fun it is by seeing different trains from other countries operate in another.

The majority of wacky runs mainly take place on the New York City Subway.
