Overview

"Hi how are you? Well this is your first day at the company, welcome aboard. Take those passengers aboard and see you back at the office".
-Boss when first starting the game.

PTSX is a mobile driving game which focuses on a city bus career. Like many others, profit is earned when picking up passengers and getting them to their destinations on time.

There are many realistic features, such as phone calls from dispatch, fuel system, and penalties when crashing or running a red light. Actual bus stops exist as well as multiple buildings which are both buildings and houses, and opposite traffic is included.

Profit

Unlike many other driving simulators such as School Bus Simulator, profit is earned in game and there are no in-app purchases.

Each passenger pays $10 when boarding. The level is complete after the profit is reached or exceeded, and driving bonus is included per pay.

Penalties

There are also penalties which will cause the profit to be deducted at the end of the game, which are:

-Running a red light: $150.
-Damage: $100.

Each time a red light is run, you will receive a phone call from the boss. He will say: "Oh my god really, you run a red light now? Come on man, be safe and drive responsibly".

The profit is also deducted while refueling. However this will not affect the overall profit once the level is complete.

Extra Bonus

Driving to a bonus bus stop.

Besides the driving bonus, there is also a chance to earn more money in game by driving to a random bus stop that has no passengers. This kind of mission is a random feature on select levels and a time limit is included. The level is complete when the bus stop is reached, only if the profit is reached or exceeded. Sometimes if the overall profit is lower than the bonus earned (such as deduction after refueling), the level continues as normal. The mission automatically ends if the bus stop isn't reached in time, or if the profit has already been reached and the level is instead complete before reaching the bus stop.

The bonus earning for driving to the bus stop is $150.

The timer will automatically pause when the fuel is low. Bonus earnings can also repay the penalties if needed.

Whether the mission is complete or fail, the extra bonus opportunity will only appear once if the level continues.

Game Over

The game is automatically over if the following happens during the driving:

  1. The bus runs out of fuel.
  2. A pedestrian is hit.
  3. The damage level is used up (as indicated by the 3 star system).

Camera Modes

PTSX has 6 camera modes:

Back view (shown in beginning of post).

Driver view.

Back view of the front.

Rear view (angled down).

Left side view.

Right side view.

The camera can't be moved around, which is the reason for the 6 fixed angles instead.

Vehicles

Orion VII NG

Cost: $0 (This is the 1st vehicle to be operated in game).
Livery: MTA

Fact: The Orion VII NG was introduced to MTA in 2007.

School Bus

Cost: $3000
Livery: N/A

Fact: The School Bus is actually based on the one seen from SCP Tower Defense. Based on the blue oval located up front, it is likely an old Ford bus from the 90s.

Nova Bus LFS

Cost: $5000
Livery: MTA

Fact: Like The Orion VII NG, the Nova Bus LFS in game is also painted in MTA livery, except it is painted in the same color as oxidized copper (likely to match the Statue of Liberty). It was introduced to the MTA in late 2009. It includes an additional mirror for interior view. This is the 3rd generation model with the rear window and air conditoning system. The sign above reads "35 Maverick Street".

Crimson

Cost: $4000
Livery: Unknown

Fact: The Crimson Bus is a parody of the Mercedes Benz Citaro 3 door. The mirrors in game are colored in blue to match the color of the bus. The sign above reads "Crimson 16".

Coach

Cost: $7000
Livery: Unknown

Fact: The Coach bus is the most expensive and largest vehicle in game. In real life it is likely based on a coach bus manufactured by Scania, King Long, or Higer, but it is unknown. A special feature is the Coach has a passenger next to the driver.

Trivia

  • Despite available seats, passengers are coded to stand (even in the School Bus & Coach where there are no standees). When zoomed in many are clipped through the seats, making them seem like they are sitting.
  • On iOS only, the Orion VII NG in PTSX is also featured in another game by the same developers known as City Bus Driver. Both buses wear the same MTA livery although the dahboard is different.
The Orion VII NG in both games.

  • The developers reused the same buses in 3 other games on Android: Offroad 4x4 Bus SimulatorBus Parking Pro, and Bus Parking 3D (which is also available on iOS).
  • Riv3r is the Android developer of PTSX, while on iOS the developer is Hakan Nehir. Likely besides the developer of the game, Hakan is also the voice actor of the boss in PTSX.
  • The game is developed with Unity.
  •  35 Maverick Street (seen on the front of the Nova Bus LFS) as an address given to some houses in Massachusetts (some of which are close to the Boston metro area). However many buses per city that is outside of New York City will indicate the street name or place next to the route number as the terminal.
  • The placement of Crimson and the number 16 is actually incorrect, since that bus is a left hand vehicle which drives on the right side. In countries where buses drive on the right side of the road, the bus number is displayed on the right hand side above the entrance, while the destination is displayed on the left side above the driver (same goes for the side display). The opposite placement applies to countries such as the UK, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, and regions like Macau and Hong Kong, is where the route number and destination have swapped places; the route is placed on the left hand side while the destination is placed on the right. This makes it easier for passengers to flag down the correct bus that will get them to where they need to go.
  • The letter X translates to number 10 in Roman numerals. Despite this, there are no other prequels to PTSX (1 through 9).
  • The School Bus is likely seen in other games, besides SCP Tower Defense.
  • The 3 star system which indicates the damage to each vehicle is also used in the 3 latters mentioned.
  • PTSX for iOS is designed for iPad, but it can be played on an iPhone too.
  • The map included on the office computer belongs to the Yosemite Valley Shuttle System, which is an actual free bus service that serves most of Yosemite Valley in California.
